They say that storms make trees take deeper roots. Such wisdom and reflection surely took place for residents at Patrick Bugden VC Gardens who enjoy their regular Art Therapy session with Therapist Clare Booker. Residents had observed that the environment in their secure Baker Unit was a bit bare and needed brightening up. They decided to collectively create something to fill the gap, a tree which can have so many meanings: growth, nature, nurture, peace, depth, resilience, wisdom…
The Art Therapy group worked on four separate canvases with the colour of their choice. The canvases were then combined to create a collaborative, integrated painting. Residents who participated in the process include: Yellow – Miranda De Looze, Amy Gollan. Blue – Norma Pearce, Judith Richards, Ann Nelson. Purple – Susan Bigg. Green – Jen Gillard, Joseph Grainey.
Our residents continue to create art for their different areas. The emphasis is on the process rather than putting pressure on the end product, but as you can see they have created a wonderful peace of art.
