Supporting veterans is about more than saying thank you. It’s about standing alongside those who have served and helping ensure they and their families feel valued, connected and supported long after their service ends. Â
There are many meaningful and enjoyable ways to make a real difference, whether through community connection, advocacy or fundraising.Â

Support Through Community and ConnectionÂ
Many veterans value connection just as much as practical support. Loneliness and social isolation can be significant challenges after service, and community-driven initiatives play an important role.Â
- Volunteer your time with veteran organisations or local community hubs. RSL LifeCare’s Veteran and Family Hubs across NSW and the ACT are welcoming spaces where veterans and their families can access support, connection and community. Those hubs are a great place for you to volunteer your time to connect with veterans and help the Hub team organise events and activities. To learn more about RSL LifeCare Veteran and Family Hubs, click here.Â
- Attend remembrance events including Anzac Day and Veterans’ Health Week activities. For more details on remembrance events, click here.Â
- Stay connected with veteran communities by supporting local initiatives and gatherings. If you’re interested, you can check out RSL LifeCare’s upcoming veteran community events here.Â

Encourage Veteran Employment and StabilityÂ
One of the most impactful ways to support veterans is by helping them build secure, fulfilling careers after service.Â
- Advocate for veteran employment by encouraging your workplace to hire ex-service personnel. You can do that by connecting them to the RSL Employment Program. For more details, click here.Â
- If you own a small business, consider hiring a veteran or family member. Their skills, resilience and ability to work in a team environment are a valuable asset to any business.Â

Get Active for a Good CauseÂ
If you enjoy staying active, there are plenty of ways to turn that energy into impact. You can take part in fun runs, walks or fitness challenges that raise funds for veterans and their families. In Australia, this could include community events such as Run Army, Bravery Trust’s Bravery Trek, or RSL LifeCare’s Weekly Veterans’ Walk and Morning Tea.Â

Spread Awareness and Start ConversationsÂ
Raising awareness helps create a stronger, more informed and supportive community.Â
- Share veteran stories and initiatives on social media. Some of the incredible stories can be found here.Â
- Learn about the challenges veterans may face after service by reading their stories, attending awareness sessions, and engaging with trusted veteran support organisations to better understand issues such as transition, employment, wellbeing and social connection.Â
- Encourage open conversations about the transition to civilian life.Â

Get Involved in Fundraising Events That Make a DifferenceÂ
Fundraising events are a meaningful way to support veterans while enjoying memorable experiences with others.Â
- Tee Off for a Cause: Charity Golf Days: RSL LifeCare’s annual charity golf events bring together supporters, community members and businesses for a day of connection and purpose. Whether you’re a seasoned golfer or simply there to enjoy the atmosphere, these events are a fun and impactful way to raise funds for services that support veterans and their families. Our Veteran Services Charity Golf Day was held in April, with golf days soon to be announced in the Hawkesbury and Central Coast regions. - Dress Up and Give Back at the Poppy Ball: The Poppy Ball is one of RSL LifeCare’s flagship fundraising events, a memorable evening that blends elegance with purpose. It’s an opportunity to honour service while contributing to vital programs that support veterans through housing, employment, and wellbeing services. Support Veterans by Donating to Trusted OrganisationsÂ
Donating to organisations that directly support veterans is one of the most effective ways to create long-term impact.Â
Trusted organisations such as RSL LifeCare, RSL NSW and other veteran-focused charities rely on community support to deliver essential services across Australia. Contributions help fund practical, on-the-ground support for veterans and their families.
Donations to RSL LifeCare helps fund:Â
- Our network of Veteran and Family Hubs, connecting veterans with employment pathways, training and personalised assistanceÂ
- Housing initiatives, including Homes for Heroes, offering safe and stable accommodationÂ
- Financial assistance, wellbeing programs and crisis support to those in needÂ
Whether given as an individual, workplace or community group, every donation helps to ensure veterans and their families have access to the support they need to rebuild and thrive. To donate, click here.
