Homes for Heroes comes home

After a two-year partnership with Wesley Mission delivering the life-changing Homes for Heroes program, RSL LifeCare Veteran Services has built its internal capabilities and is resuming the program in-house.

Homes for Heroes provides a critical service to veterans who are experiencing homelessness or at risk of becoming homeless, offering transitional accommodation and wrap around in-community support. Since the partnership began, we have helped over 90 veterans secure temporary or permanent accommodation in a secure and safe environment.

The Homes for Heroes program began in 2014 out of RSL LifeCare’s ANZAC Village at Narrabeen. It has since grown to include more in-community support for veterans. In 2019, Wesley Mission took over operations of the program as part of a partnership with RSL LifeCare. Now, Homes for Heroes rejoins an expanded veteran services portfolio that includes:

  • Professional DVA claims and advocacy services
  • Employment assistance
  • Housing and homelessness support
  • Wellbeing centres
  • Financial assistance
  • Equine and horse handling courses

With the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide underway, programs such as Homes for Heroes are needed by veterans, and we are honoured to be here for them in their time of need.

We sincerely thank Wesley Mission for their commitment to veteran services over the past two years and look forward to growing this program to support veterans in need to live sustainable, fulfilling and independent lives.
