Paolo’s Journey: Caring with Heart as a Nurse

“I’ve been a registered nurse with RSL LifeCare for six years, and from the very beginning, it felt like more than just a workplace – it felt like family.

What makes RSL LifeCare special to me is the strong, genuine relationships we build every day. There’s a deep sense of connection between team members, residents, and families, and that bond is what makes coming to work so rewarding. Caring for residents here isn’t just about the clinical side of nursing; it’s about trust, compassion, and being present for people during some of the most important moments of their lives.

I chose to work at RSL LifeCare because even before I applied, I’d heard it was one of the best residential care homes in Ballina. Once I started, I quickly understood why. The environment is welcoming, the home itself is beautiful, and the culture is built on respect and genuine care.

One of the most meaningful parts of my role is the lasting impact we have on families. Team members and residents may come and go, but the relationships we build often stay with us forever. It’s incredibly rewarding when families recognise you outside of work and take the time to say hello. Moments like that remind me that I’ve been able to provide sincere and heartfelt care to their loved ones.

Before coming to Australia, I worked as a registered nurse in the Philippines for five years, followed by another five years in the Middle East. Those experiences shaped who I am today and deepened my appreciation for compassionate, people‑centred care.
