The Hawkesbury Veteran and Family Hub was officially launched on Friday 13 February, marking a significant step forward in coordinated, community-based support for veterans and their families.
Almost 200 people attended the launch in Windsor, including veterans, families, community members, government representatives and service partners, reflecting the strong local support behind the new Hub.
Speaking at the launch, Drew Pearce, Interim CEO of RSL LifeCare, said the day was significant not because a building had opened, but because a capability had been launched.
“The hub we are opening today may be temporary, but the services are not,” Mr Pearce said. “This space allows us to start delivering support straight away, while continuing to plan for the Hub’s permanent home.”
At the launch, 11 partner organisations were on site to showcase their services and upcoming programs, demonstrating the collaborative model at the heart of the Hub. Partner organisations included RSL NSW Sport & Rec, Open Arms, Kookaburra Kids, Richmond Community Services, and Neami National – Medicare Mental Health Centre Richmond, alongside other local and specialist service providers.
The Hub’s temporary location in Windsor will serve as its base for some time, providing stability, consistency and a strong local presence. Central and well connected to the community it serves, the space has been carefully fitted out to create a welcoming, practical environment where veterans and families can feel supported from the moment they walk through the door.
The launch acknowledged the many people and organisations whose partnership and support have brought the Hub to life, including Susan Templeman MP, Member for Macquarie, Brigadier Vince Williams CSC (Ret’d), Acting President of RSL NSW, David Ingram, President of Windsor RSL Club, Caroline Mackaness, Office of Veterans Affairs, representatives from the Department of Veterans’ Affairs, local RSL Sub-Branches, ex service organisations and community partners. Recognition was also given to the RSL LifeCare Veteran Services team, whose work has turned the Hub from a vision into an operational service.
Looking ahead, plans are underway for the Hub’s permanent home at the historic Richmond Court House, a landmark building dating back to 1877. Thanks to support from the Office for Veterans Affairs (OVA) and NSW Government, the site is being thoughtfully reimagined into a modern, purpose built Veteran and Family Hub that will honour the building’s heritage while delivering contemporary, dignified support spaces. While timing for the transition is still being finalised, the Hub is already active and supporting the community from Windsor.
Addressing veterans and families directly, Drew reinforced the Hub’s purpose and sense of ownership.
“This Hub belongs to you. Your experiences, your voices, and your needs will continue to shape its future.”
Whether someone is navigating transition, seeking advocacy or wellbeing support, looking for employment or financial guidance, needing housing assistance, or simply wanting to connect with others who understand their journey, the Hawkesbury Veteran and Family Hub team is ready to support the community from today onward.
