Our newest addition to our Veteran & Family Hub network is now open. The Central Coast Veteran & Family Hub, based in Wyong, officially opened on 13th September. With roughly 200 people attending the grand opening, it was fantastic to see the interaction and camaraderie from all who attended. We are very grateful for the support of the Department of Veterans’ Affairs who have made this possible.
Between July and September 2024, our Veteran & Family Hubs:
- Welcomed over 770 visitors
- Received a satisfaction rating of ‘satisfied’ or ‘very satisfied’ from 97% of visitors
- Hosted 122 on-site events
- Took part in 28 off-site events
Here are a few highlights from each of our Hubs:
Riverina Veteran & Family Hub
The Riverina team continues to expand the offerings for their veteran and family community.
The successful yoga program, sponsored by Navy Health, is expanding the sessions from twice a week, to four times weekly at the request of representatives from both RAAF Wagga and Kapooka.
As part of a donation from the Wagga RSL sub-Branch, we’ve secured places for partners of current and former serving members of the ADF to undergo 5 modules towards a certificate 3 in business in conjunction with Riverina Community College, and are conducting a Free senior first aid course.
Veteran Gaming Australia kindly donated a huge prize package as part of our next VGA gaming event, and we have a Veteran’s Cup Golf tournament upcoming as part of Veteran’s Health Week.
Shoalhaven Veteran & Family Hub
In September the Shoalhaven team was privileged to host several important events including the inaugural Shoalhaven Women in Defence Network lunch. 28 professional defence women from HMAS Albatross and HMAS Creswell joined us for lunch which was kindly funded by Base Command. With overwhelming positive feedback, this will now become a monthly event.
The Defence Member Family Support (DMFS) Medallion Ceremony was hosted at the Hub, with over 100 local families coming together to recognise the resilience of local defence children. TPI Association hosted a meet and greet morning tea, and the Callala Beach RSL sub-Branch enjoyed lunch and an informative talk on Planning Ahead from local Community Legal Service, Shoalcoast. The Hub has also added another regular monthly activity to its offerings, with indoor carpet bowls being launched in September.
Northern Beaches Veteran Wellbeing Centre
The Northern Beaches Veteran Wellbeing Centre, together with Invictus and Frontline Yoga, have run a successful 6-week yoga program with more than 16 veterans attending the weekly 2 hour sessions.
The team are also hosting a Ten Pin Bowling activity in conjunction with War Vets Narrabeen as part of Veterans’ Health Week.
Hunter Veteran & Family Hub
The Hunter Veteran & Family Hub team has also been busy this quarter, attending several meetings to strengthen relationships in the local veteran community, including Newcastle & Hunter District Council Meetings, and the Lake Macquarie inter-agency meeting for local community support.
Our Claims Advisor, Hayley, has also been mentoring a local volunteer in the Advocacy Training and Development Program as part of a pilot for future opportunities.
Queanbeyan Veteran & Family Hub
We’re pleased to announce that plans are well underway to develop a new Veteran & Family Hub to help veterans and families in the Queanbeyan and ACT region. We are meeting with local community members to understand their needs, and the next consultation meeting is on October 31, 2024.

Our efforts are proudly supported by funds from RSL NSW and its sub-Branches, and the services we provide would not be possible without the generous support of our donors. Â
