Invictus

Following a visit in 2013 to the US-based Warrior Games for wounded, ill and injured military personnel and veterans, Prince Harry was inspired to create an expanded international version.

The inaugural Invictus Games took place in London in 2014 and attracted more than 400 competitors from 13 nations. The second Invictus Games took place in May 2016 in Orlando, Florida, and built on the excitement of the London Games with more than 500 competitors from 14 nations. September 2017 saw 550 competitors from 17 nations compete in Toronto, Canada and then in October 2018, 600 competitors from 18 nations will come to Sydney for the fourth Invictus Games.

The Invictus Games demonstrate soldiers’ and veterans’ indefatigable drive to overcome and the power of sport on their journey to recovery.

These Games shine a spotlight on the unconquerable character of servicemen and women and their families. They highlight the competitors’ “INVICTUS GAMES spirit.” These Games have been about seeing competitors sprinting for the finish line with everything they have and then turning around to clap the last person in. They have been about teammates choosing to cross the line together. These Games have been a display of the very best of the human spirit.

Prince Harry,
established the Invictus Games Foundation

The Invictus Games is about much more than just sport – it captures hearts, challenges minds and changes lives.

RSL LifeCare – Supporting the Australian Invictus Games Team 2018

Australian Invictus Team – Families and Friends Uniforms

The Invictus Games shows the courage and determination of injured and ill servicemen and women and veterans as they go through recovery. The Invictus Games Foundation also honours the role that the families, friends and carers of these men and women play in their recovery. Each athlete is able to take two family members with them to support them at the Games. RSL LifeCare proudly supplied the 92 Families and Friends of the Australian 2017 Invictus Athletes with supporters uniforms and kits. These Families were united in their support of the athletes, their Aussie uniforms creating an instant bond amongst the Families and Friends. The uniforms also made it easy for the athletes to identify their supporters in the stands at the events. The families, friends and carers wore their uniforms to every sporting event as well as the opening and closing ceremonies wearing with pride their shirts declaring “I AM supporting the Australians”.
