Hear from our residents

I am very thankful for my life thus far and am so grateful to be here at Teloca, it has given me the peace and security to live the remainder knowing that I am being well cared for.

Jean Robson
Narrandera – Teloca House

I have settled in well here and enjoy taking part in many activities, in fact I pretty much go along to everything. I have always enjoyed walking and continue my daily walks, sometimes with friends such as Esme. I enjoy the frequent visits from my family and they will often take me home for dinner or lunch or sometimes over night.

Kevin enjoys living here at Bill McKenzie gardens and says the staff are very helpful and caring, he has met a lot of very interesting people. He enjoys the range of activities and the quality of food is tremendous.

We feel so privileged to be living at The Grange, there is no doubt in our minds that packing up from our family home and a lifetime of memories in a small country town and moving to Wagga Wagga and the security of The Grange is the best decision we could have made for our future. We have everything we need, strong support from the Village staff, a lovely community of new friends and no shortage of things to do. We have such a beautiful outlook from the windows of our Villa.

We moved into Tea Gardens Grange in 2001 from Berowra Heights in northern Sydney, where we had lived for 35 years. We love it here, especially the freedom to travel and enjoy life surrounded by great neighbours. We’re both volunteers for Meals on Wheels and Lyn is involved with the RSL Ladies Auxiliary, Lioness, Community Transport and Craft.

I moved into Bimbimbie Village from Albury around two and a half years ago to be closer to family who live in the area. I enjoy playing Mahjong and being a member of the Ladies Auxillary; I contribute to the Craft Group and also volunteer at the Op Shop. I really enjoy the social aspect of village life, I’ve made some good friends and appreciate my wonderful neighbours.

The best way I can describe RSL ANZAC Village is that it has a feeling of care that underpins the attitude and actions of our neighbours, our friends and the staff who are here to help us live life to the fullest. Since moving in, Frank and I have made wonderful friends and even coaxed others from the Blue Mountains to move here too! I am very involved in the Museum Committee, currently as Chairperson, and also in the Chapel where I organise the roster and enjoy the fellowship of all. I help in the library one afternoon a week, which is a pet love of mine, having enjoyed many years of working in my sons library at All Saints College Bathurst. Life is busy and fun.

"Lunch was wonderful - especially the Bread & Butter pudding dessert. "One of the nicest meals we've had in a long time. Meat very tender."

After looking at a number of options my husband and I determined that Taara Gardens was a place to be, and moved in September, 2015 after selling the Oakdale property. I‘m a country girl through and through and love the outlook and feel of our lovely village.

I have five grandchildren and three great grandchildren whom I adore and would have them with me all the time if I could. Here at William Beech I love seeing the pre-school and school children when they visit, I regularly attend morning exercises, colouring, bingo, outings, board games, reminiscing, craft and many of the other activities run within and outside of the facility.

Since moving in to Jonathan Rogers House I reconnected with an old friend, Keith. I hadn’t played the double bass for a number of years, but we both love music and entertaining so have formed a duo and greatly enjoy performing together. It’s very satisfying to be back in the swing of making music.

I love my apartment and I find everyone at Tobruk have been kind including the Coordinator Holly. I love to have been able to bring some of my plant pots making it feel like home. I have oregano, parsley and basil herbs, some yellow roses and geraniums, my favourite. I have been very busy settling in but soon I will be able to help were needed if I can.

I moved from Sydney to Chauvel Village three and a half years ago to be closer to my youngest son. I love the fresh country air, the atmosphere of Chauvel Village and the friendliness of the people. One of my favourite daily rituals is meeting with other residents at afternoon tea. I also love the opportunity to dress up and have a bit of fun; last year I was Queen Elizabeth at our Winter Festival which was a hoot.

I moved to the RSL Remembrance Village some months ago and I am very happy here. The care given to me is excellent and the staff are very accommodating. The food is wonderful and I like to join in the activities when I can, especially Tai Chi, bus outings and Bingo to name a few. I am still lucky enough to enjoy my bingo and friends at the Australian Rules Football Club 3 times a week.

For sometime I have intended to write to management to thank RSL LifeCare staff for the exemplary service and care they consistently provide to my mother. This latest controversy over aged care facilities has finally prompted me to do so.

As a family, we were anxious when the time came for my mother to enter an aged care facility as we had heard about, and indeed witnessed, some services that were quite substandard in the level of care they provided to their elderly residents.

However, the facilities and service provided at Florence Price have been wonderful.

The culture in your facility seems to encourage caring and respectful interactions with the residents. Everyone from gardeners, cleaners and clinical staff all know my mother's name and go out of their way to make her feel loved and included. When our large extended family and friends came together to celebrate her 99th birthday your staff could not have been more accommodating and allowed us to take over a part of your facility and fill it with flowers, many small children, lots of our food and beverages and of course lots of laughter. For this and for the care you have given my mother, my family cannot thank you all enough.

We tell everyone that this is the best Nursing Home on the coast. Thank you so much for the care provided to our mother.

One of the great things about living close to family is the opportunity for them to be a part of my life – my grandson Alex bugled The Last Post and The Rouse at our Remembrance Day Ceremony last year. It was a proud and touching moment for me.

I enjoy my new home at Sanananda Park, I call it my private sanctuary! The lawns and garden maintenance are done for me, the garbage is put out and returned every week. I hated doing this job! Our morning teas and BBQs give a feeling of community and bring the residents together, it’s wonderful. The only thing I miss is my cat.

In regards to the recent segment showing the misconduct of Aged Care Homes, I would like to make a note about the outstanding care and living environment here at RSL LifeCare, Canberra. The nurses and carers are respectful, kind and professional. I have never felt unsafe or threatened. The living standard that RSL LifeCare provides is terrific. The food is pleasant to eat, the rooms are comfortable and homey and the activities provided are always enjoyable. I feel extremely luck to be a part of such a caring home and would like to say a big thank you to all of those involved in making my residency here so easy and enjoyable.

To all the wonderful staff at Fromelles. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the wonderful care you gave to our mum, grandmum, mother-in-law and friend.. Always with a smile & a friendly manner, thank you again.

I have been a resident since January 2018 and honestly say it surprised me to find out what living in a like this home was. I am delighted to say I love being here, the residents are so friendly and the staff are exceptional. Having lived on my own for many years I have missed so much, the staff are like family always there to help in every way, a kindly word of encouragement, a laugh and always there with a helping hand. I think we older folk can't bring ourselves to leave our home in favour of a nursing home because they have not had good reputations. I'm glad I took the step with my wonderful family doing all the footwork. I find this a wonderful place and I can honestly say I love it here.

I would like to thank you for your assistance in getting Mum into a unit at Rowland Village.

From our very first meeting you've been extremely approachable and accommodating. You continued this right through the process to Mum's move-in day and I know you have had to assist her with a couple of things since.

Your approach to selling was what it should be. There was never any hard-sell; just helpful advice, transparency and support.

As I mentioned in our first interaction, I first became aware that Rowland Village may be an option for Mum when I was taking a resident there from Mt. Wilga (with my casual patient transport job). This resident was extremely happy and spoke very highly of the Village. I've got to say this theme has continued. We've met quite a number of residents along the way and they've all been very friendly and seemingly happy!

There's undoubtedly a lot of bad press these days about retirement villages but we always felt comfortable in dealing with RSL Lifecare and Murray McDermott!

RMVCG feels like home. I have had more hugs and kisses than one man needs, I can have hot milk on my Weetbix in the morning. I have friends here and the staff are like family to me. I am friendly to everybody and everybody is friendly to me.

I heard about John Edmondson VC Gardens through a nurse who was actually working part time here and she suggested I come and have a look at this beautiful new facility that had just opened so I took her advice. As they say “the rest is history” because here we are enjoying our new life in John Edmondson VC Gardens. The staff and the residents have been so lovely to John and I and I hope to be making new memories here with them. Right now I am crocheting a lap blanket with John’s Campbell clan tartan.

I have lived at the Doug & Olive McWilliam units for nine years and I love it here. I can always get together for a bit of a chat with other residents whilst hanging out the washing or doing a bit of gardening. Christmas time sees us having a small get together with a couple of platters and a little wine to celebrate, but mainly just to relax. I maintain my independence by driving to Lake Cargelligo to visit family or just a drive into town for groceries. It is very handy to have the bakery, newsagency, post office and chemist across the road and I often will pick up the papers for another resident. I am very happy here.
