In The Heart of RSL ANZAC Village Narrabeen
The War Museum at Anzac Retirement Village in Narrabeen is a state-of-the-art, professionally curated and beautifully presented museum open to the public every day from 10am-4pm. Entry is free. Over 90% of items have been donated by residents of the Village, bringing a very personal element to the collection. Run by a team of Village volunteers, when you visit you will likely be able to chat to residents who have very interesting stories to tell.
Developed in conjunction with experts at the Grimwade Centre for Cultural Materials and Conservation, University of Melbourne, the Museum has rare and unique items on exhibit from every conflict Australia has been involved in, including Afghanistan. From the parachute motorbike which greets you, to the drawers that open to reveal hidden treasures, to diaries hastily scribbled on the front line, there is something to capture the imagination of everyone and every age.
The Museum Committee runs tours which can include a talk and lunch or morning tea in the adjoining Gallipoli cafe, making it a fantastic and very affordable outing for Probus Groups, schools or any other interested club. The Museum is also an easy, local opportunity for families to do something interesting and a little different.
