This Monday, Tea Gardens Grange resident Roy turns 100, and we think a century like his deserves a very big celebration.

Roy’s story is one of service, community and, most of all, love. Roy served as an Air Force medic during the Second World War and later dedicated 33 years to volunteering with the Berowra Rural Fire Brigade, including being a captain for 8 years. Along the way, he met the love of his life, Lyn. After just three dates, Roy proposed, she said yes, and more than 65 years later they’re still completely devoted to one another. Together they’ve raised a wonderful family, given generously to their community and made plenty of friends along the way, including at Tea Gardens Grange, which he and Lyn have called home since 2001. So, it’s no surprise that Roy’s milestone birthday has become a festival of fun, beginning with a family celebration and followed by a Tea Gardens Grange party of more than 100 friends, neighbours, and community members who came together to celebrate Roy.

Asked his secret to a life well lived, Roy’s answer was beautifully simple:
“Doing things for other people makes you feel good. Australia is a nation of volunteers, we help each other, and that is what life is all about, helping each other.”
We couldn’t have said it better ourselves.
Happy 100th birthday, Roy. What a remarkable century, and what a privilege it is to celebrate it with you.
