Veterans riding to recovery…
A program run by veterans for veterans.

Spur Ranch is located at the RSL LifeCare village at Picton. Working with horses is a meaningful and healing experience. Learning how to handle horses is the first step in a series of programs that ultimately leads to a ride that treks through the Snowy Mountains and other iconic locations.

Designed by veterans for veterans, the programs have been developed with wellbeing and recovery as core elements and the team are committed to helping participants enjoy and challenge themselves.

Never handled a horse before or it’s been some time?

Start with our horse handler course. Connecting with a horse is a unique and inspiring experience resulting in a new level of calm and confidence.

Once you are a Horse Handler you can also volunteer at Spur Ranch and gain some more experience, be confident with horses and sign up for our next program – The Horse Trek.

Imagine 5 days riding through the Snowy mountains. It is exhilarating and challenging but the trail staff and instructors at Spur Ranch will get you through it. It will be an adventure you will never forget.

Why Spur Works

Spur is designed to promote mindfulness and wellbeing, helping wounded, injured and ill veterans with their recovery. This is done by introducing participants to various aspects of horse handling, educating them on how to care for the horse, and providing a safe space for them to focus and heal.

If you are a veteran affected by your service, then our friendly and supportive team are here to help you with your recovery. All we ask from you is to commit to the tasks and we will help you overcome any physical, psychological or emotional barriers.

This is an opportunity to learn new skills that will also help your physical and mental health, build self-confidence, resilience and improved social interaction.
