New retirement home in Newcastle provides state of art facilities

A respectful reminder

New retirement home provides state of art facilities while respecting one of our great battles.

A potted rubber tree was part of the ‘topping out’ ceremony recently held at a new retirement and aged-care facility in Newcastle.

Workers at the RSL LifeCare building Long Tan celebrated pouring the final slab of its 13-storeys.

Long Tan is scheduled to begin taking residents at the start of next year.

“The rubber tree represents the rubber plantation in which the Battle of Long Tan was fought, during the Vietnam War,” RSL LifeCare Northern Region Manager Renee Yates said.

“That floor will feature a community centre and bar. It will be a general area where residents can congregate.

“I imagine there will be a number of rubber trees planted here when it is finished.”

This vertical village will offer both retirement living and aged care home options. There will be 76 retirement living units which will each have two bedrooms, two bathrooms, study area, private balcony and dedicated car space.

It will also feature a bistro and cafe, community dining, on-site wi-fi, and all homes will have a 24/7 Emergency Call button. Plus there will be social outings and a village bus.

Ms Renee Yates said about 30 attended the ceremony comprising builders, sub-contractors, architects and the customer, RSL LifeCare.

“It was a milestone and symbolically each signed the final steel rod used in the project,” she said.
