RSL LifeCare officially opened its newest Veteran and Family Hub in Queanbeyan yesterday, delivering vital services to more than 26,500 veterans and their families in the region.
The opening of the Hub, located at 251 Crawford Street, Queanbeyan, brought together key leaders – Member for Eden-Monaro and Minister for Regional Development, the Hon Kristy McBain and ACT Minister for Seniors and Veterans, Suzanne Orr, alongside Deputy President of the Repatriation Commission, Mark Brewer AM CSC and Bar, veterans, their families, and members of the local community.
The Hub is a one-stop-shop for local veterans and their families, providing employment, housing, financial, DVA claims and wellbeing support and programs, in a welcoming, community focused space.
RSL LifeCare’s network of Veteran and Family Hubs, in partnership with RSL NSW, is making a significant impact on the veteran community across NSW:
· More than 770 veterans were supported with DVA claims, with a total of 3,390 DVA claims lodged last financial year
· Financial support provided to over 350 veterans, a 26% increase from the previous year.
· More than 6,155 veterans and family members checked into one of the Hubs since 1 January 2023, with over 8,000 veterans, family and community members using a Hub for events and activities
The Queanbeyan Hub joins existing locations in the Riverina, Shoalhaven, Northern Beaches, Newcastle and the Central Coast, with additional hubs under development in Canberra, Maitland, Hawkesbury, Ingleburn, and on the North Coast.
Beyond the services at Hubs, RSL LifeCare continues to support thousands of veterans and family members through residential aged care, retirement living, and home care. Veterans and their families receive priority access to RSL LifeCare services because they deserve the very best in care, dignity, and respect.
“Today is a significant milestone for RSL LifeCare as we open the doors to our Queanbeyan Veteran and Family Hub. This space is more than just a service centre – it is a place where the veteran community can connect, seek support, and feel at home. It is our duty to ensure that a veterans’ finest hours do not end when they take off the uniform – that they, and their families, continue to be supported and honoured in every stage of life,” said RSL LifeCare CEO Janet Muir.
Ms Muir added “the transition from military to civilian life can be challenging, and this new hub will provide veterans and their families with the targeted support they need. Whether it’s securing employment, finding housing or accessing financial aid, the Queanbeyan Hub will be a critical resource for the region’s veteran community.”
