RSL LifeCare is honoured to announce that Her Excellency the Honourable Ms Sam Mostyn AC, Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, has officially accepted the role of Patron of RSL LifeCare. This historic appointment was formally recognised during the 30th Field of Remembrance Dedication and ANZAC Service in Canberra this morning – a poignant commemoration honouring veterans, war widows, and their families.
In a moving tribute, veteran families and war widows laid personal symbols of remembrance, underscoring the profound legacy of service and sacrifice that continues to shape our nation. The presence of the Governor-General at this solemn occasion reaffirmed her deep commitment to Australia’s veteran and aged care communities.
RSL LifeCare CEO, Janet Muir, warmly welcomed the Governor-General to the RSL LifeCare family, highlighting the significance of her patronage in continuing the longstanding tradition of vice-regal support for the organisation.
“It is an honour to officially welcome the Governor-General, Ms Mostyn, as Patron of RSL LifeCare. As the daughter of a Vietnam veteran who served our nation with distinction for almost 40 years, the Governor-General brings a deep and personal understanding of the sacrifices made by our service personnel and their families.”
“We are confident that her esteemed patronage will elevate our support for over 18,427 veterans, seniors, and their families through residential care, retirement living, home care, our growing Veteran and Family Hub network, Homes for Heroes, Veterans Employment Program, and Spur Equine Program.”
“Together, we will inspire greater awareness, engagement and impact across our communities,” said Ms. Muir.
For more than 110 years, RSL LifeCare has been at the forefront of providing compassionate support to veterans, war widows, and seniors. Established in 1911 on Bare Island, Botany Bay, RSL LifeCare has grown to become one of Australia’s leading charitable aged care and veteran support providers.
The Governor-General reflected on the significance of her patronage of RSL LifeCare as she attended her first official engagement with the organisation.
“Veterans are at the heart of what RSL LifeCare does and they deserve our very best support and respect,” the Governor-General said.
“Accepting patronage of RSL LifeCare is meaningful to me. As the daughter of a career Army Officer, I know firsthand what being part of a military family means and just how important it is that we care for our veterans.”
“RSL LifeCare’s work has a significant impact on those who have given so much to our country, and I look forward to supporting and amplifying their achievements and stories as Patron.”
