Federal Government grant awarded to RSL LifeCare

RSL LifeCare has been awarded a $50,000 grant by the Australian Government to support the development of a business case to establish a Veterans’ and Families’ Hub to be located in Maitland.

The successful application by RSL LifeCare, supported by RSL NSW, brings the establishment of a Hub in the Hunter region of New South Wales one step closer.

This is in addition to the earlier news about the successful grants to develop business cases for Hubs in the Tweed-North Coast and Queanbeyan regions, announced earlier in August 2023.

The commitment to deliver Veterans’ and Families’ Hubs is part of the Government’s $46.7 million commitment to deliver ten new Veterans’ and Families’ Hubs across the country.

Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, Matt Keogh, is positive about the developments, stating “It is fantastic to see the progress being made in the expansion of the Veterans’ and Families’ Hubs program, to bring services and support to the doorsteps of our veteran community across the country. Services provided by hubs are tailored to the local community, delivered in partnership with state, territory and local government, ex-service organisations and community groups.”

Member for Paterson, Meryl Swanson stated “The local veteran community in the Hunter region will benefit from a range of services available close to home to support their health and wellbeing. These services are yet to be determined, however they will be delivered according to the needs of our Hunter region veteran community.”

The services provided by these hubs include health and wellbeing, education, housing and social support and connection, employment support, income and financial support, and support with making claims for entitlements and subsequent advocacy where required.
