A Community Celebrates

RSL LifeCare’s Albert Moore Gardens in Merimbula is dedicated to being part of the community it serves.

We had a week of celebrations”
– Manager Julie Evans

This was none more evident than in the lead up to Christmas which saw a number of community groups taking part in fun activities.

These included a volunteers’ event, the intergen playgroup end of year party, and local school students brandishing good cheer.

“We had a week of celebrations,” manager Julie Evans said. “Our residents’ Christmas party alone had 110 people, comprising residents, and their family and friends.”

Guest artists for the Christmas party were local uke band the Wobbles.

Also taking part in the week of festivities were members of the Merimbula Girl Guides who sang Christmas songs at one special dinner time performance.

Moreover, an afternoon tea for volunteers was held and saw the giving and receiving of presents – appreciation for the dedication of these often hidden figures.

“Many of our residents have lived in Merimbula for years,” Mrs Evan said. “Everyone seems to know each other. There are a lot of connections.”

Bands from two local schools performed with students from Mumbula Primary donning Santa hats.

One resident told the story of living in the area many years ago.

“She moved back to be at Albert Moore in her retirement but had been away for a considerable time,” Mrs Evans said.

“She recalled going to nearby Tathra by horse and cart at Christmas time. It’s a 20 minute trip now but back then it was a day’s journey.”

Mrs Evan said the lady also remembered her family stringing gum leaves together and pinning them to the wall, to use as Christmas decorations.
